The Urban Unconscious: Mediating the Psyche and the City in the Twentieth Century
“By examining the impact of psychoanalytic theory on the urban discourses of Aldo Rossi, Peter Eisenman, and Rem Koolhaas, novel links are made between those hypotheses that address non-rational conditionings of the psyche, and those that address latent, yet nevertheless active agencies driving urban formation.
The goal is to devise means for articulating the role of desire in structuring subjectivity and built environment alike. My current research on global urbanisation processes concerns how human and material realms are entangled under various political-economic agendas in city settings worldwide. The goal is to understand the extent of co-dependencies between people and things that arise in the production of urban territory in a particular place and time, and thereby better comprehend the varied directions of social and spatial change in cities taking place now.”
